Indy has it all, take a look!

Indy Comes Alive after Dark

Unlike most downtowns, Indianapolis comes alive after dark—especially in the blocks surrounding the Indiana Convention Center. Over 200 restaurants and clubs, live music and shows, and a four-story shopping mall are all within walking distance. You’ll be in the heart of everything, whether you're ready to relax or have some fun.

Indy’s Attractions

Two downtown landmarks, Monument Circle and Indiana War Memorial Plaza, are among America's great urban spaces. The Circle centers the city and furnishes its “Circle City” calling card. The White River State Park offers a unique blend of green space (Military Park, the Central Canal, White River itself) and cultural attractions - including the Indianapolis Zoo, White River Gardens; the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art; and the Indiana State Museum. A bicycle is a great way to explore downtown Indy. Bicycle Garage Indy is offering a special discount to all ACRL attendees. The Indianapolis Museum of Art is one of the nation’s largest (and it’s free!). The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is also the largest in the world (and the best according to Child magazine). If all that touring makes you thirsty, visit one of Indy’s wineries or breweries.

Dining Out in Indy

Downtown Indy is so dense with restaurants, you'll wonder how Indy became known for sports instead of food. Many more of these great Indianapolis restaurants are within walking distance or just a short cab ride away. With options ranging from world-famous steak houses to sushi restaurants and sports bars, Indy has something for every taste!

Shopping in Indy

With 5 shopping districts, Indy offers everything from the convenience of a 100+ store shopping mall in the heart of downtown, to the satisfying adventure of exploring one-of-a-kind shops, like the Indy CD & Vinyl record shop, Artifacts art gifts, and Big Hat Books (among many, many others). Whether you are the modern and chic type or you have a funky vintage vibe, Indy has a lively mix of shopping options for you to choose from.

It's Baseball Season!

Although Indianapolis doesn’t have a major league team, it is the home of the Indianapolis Indians, Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Indians play in Victory Field—the "best minor league ballpark in America"—located at the corner of West and Maryland Streets in downtown Indianapolis. The Indians will play at home against the Toledo Mud Hens on Tuesday, April 9 (7:05 p.m.) and Wednesday, April 10 (1:35 p.m.).

Only in Indy

The Travel Channel® declared Indy's St. Elmo Steak House shrimp cocktail the “world's hottest meal.” Indy's walkable/joggable/bike-able Cultural Trail was deemed “an astonishing and amazing vision” by Andy Wiley-Schwartz of the Project for Public Spaces who added, “There's really nothing like this in the world.” One of Indy’s goals for many years has been to create a city especially designed to make conventions productive and fun. Come take a look, and see for yourself what Indy has in store for you at ACRL 2013!
