Not your first conference? – Be an ACRL Buddy to a newcomer!

Over 1,000 people will be attending their first ACRL conference in Baltimore. We’d like to help our first-time attendees make the most of their conference experience. Experienced conference goers attending ACRL 2017 are invited to be a buddy for a first-time ACRL attendee by providing advice and guidance before or during the conference. It’s easy — you don’t have to have all the answers, just be willing to help. If you’ve ever been to an ACRL Conference before and are willing to commit some time to helping a new person navigate the conference and learn more about ACRL, that’s all it takes. You may want to meet up at the ACRL Engagement Fair on Wednesday from 7:00-8:00 pm.

DEADLINE: Read the new attendee profiles and click “sign up” to be a buddy to that person. The deadline to sign up to be a Buddy to a Mentee is March 17.

Be a Buddy!

How much time are we talking? How do we start?

It’s up to you. We suggest the buddy/mentor make the first contact after initially signing up and go from there. You may want to meet up after the ACRL Engagement Fair (a great start for first-time attendees or a refresher for experienced conference goers) or go the Exhibits, have coffee, or grab some lunch together. You might meet up with your buddy just once, or a few times throughout the conference. The intent is primarily for helping orient the new person to the event and helping them feel comfortable (we were all new once!).
