The ALA JobLIST Placement Center provides opportunities for employers and job seekers to meet, network, and achieve success in reaching their employment goals.

Events and activities in the ALA JobLIST Placement Center are designed to help job seekers retool their skills and prepare for job searches. They are intended for people at every stage of their careers–not just new graduates. Employers are encouraged to interact with job seekers at every level.

The Placement Center is coordinated by the ALA Office for Human Resource Development and Recruitment and is sponsored by Kent State University School of Information.

For Job Seekers

Mock Interviews
Sign-ups will be available for mock interviews. This activity will provide individuals with an opportunity to practice for interviews and receive feedback from a mock search committee.

Resume Review
If you need help getting your resume polished off, stop by the Placement Center while you are at conference.  A resume reviewing service will be offered within the Placement Center. ACRL members experienced in evaluating and hiring librarians will be available to critique resumes of new and experienced librarians. Just drop in with your resume; no appointment is necessary. The service is free.

Searching for Jobs
Job seekers should register and search for jobs on the JobLIST web site.  Registration is not required to view job information.  However, it is recommended. Registration will give employers access to your resume information.  It will also allow you to send employers messages and have your resume automatically attached to messages.  Employers will be able to contact you within the JobLIST environment.  Attendance at the conference is not required to use JobLIST.

Career Counseling
Recharge your career by meeting with a professional career counselor. The counselor can guide you in strategizing for the next phase of your career, solving a problem in your current job situation, defining goals, and/or rejuvenating your career. Each one-on-one session is 20 minutes, and is completely confidential. If you have never experienced career counseling, or just haven’t used this type of service in a long time, this is the perfect opportunity to introduce yourself or reacquaint yourself with a service that can be useful throughout your career. For Employers

Posting Job Ads
Employers who want to post available positions, should place an on-line ad on JobLIST.  Rates vary depending on the size of your ad, and are listed on the site.

Looking at Resumes
Employers who want to review resumes of registered job seekers must have an active online ad on JobLIST in order to do so.  Once your ad is active, you will be able to review resumes and contact job seekers within the JobLIST environment.  If you plan to attend the conference, you can contact candidates in advance to schedule interviews.  Attendance at the conference is not required to use JobLIST.

Interviewing at Conference
Employers who want to use the on-site interviewing facilities must have an active online ad placed on JobLIST at the time you schedule an interview.  To schedule interviews, you should first confirm the date and time of your interviews with candidates.  Then see Placement Center staff for table assignment.  You should be prepared to give the candidate’s name, day and time of the interview.  Interview tables are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Computers and Other Resources
There will be computers available in the Placement Center for viewing and/or posting available positions. There will also be a wide variety of books on job-hunting topics such as interviewing, salary negotiation, resume writing, etc.

Open House

There will be an Open House in the Placement Center on Friday, April 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., where representatives from academic institutions will have an opportunity to showcase positions and the quality of life at their institutions.  Staff will be able to discuss various aspects of campus and community life—the things that make your institution unique, such as arts, music, sports and recreational activities, cultural facilities, the work environment, etc.—without necessarily talking about specific jobs.  Institutions and organizations interested in participating should complete the Open House Participation Form and email it to Beatrice Calvin at
